Jessie Moleni

Our family moved to Tennessee in April 2022  and jumped in on ‘homesteading.’ Our pasture was in some desperate need of regenerative management and we wanted to have raw milk on tap for our young family so as soon as we could get fencing up, we bought a family milk cow and her calf.  In addition to milking 1-2 cows for ourselves and a small herdshare and using the cows to improve the pasture, we also keep a flock of laying hens and do several rounds of meat birds every year.

Jessie’s Workshop

What You Need to Know about Having a Cow

This workshop is for the person/family that wants to invest in a family milk cow but is worried about the level of commitment.

We will cover:

  • The importance of having buy-in from your partner/spouse/older kids.
  • Connecting with other milk-cow owners and finding a milk-cow mentor.
  • Giving your cow a longer dry-off period to free the family up for off-farm adventures.
  • Finding committed herdshare members.
  • Calf sharing for easier management
  • Making friends with bull owners.
  • Cow temperament and why it will make your experience more manageable.
